Robin B. Smith was a South African wrestling manager and actor. He is most famous in the 2009 film Invictus. He was known in the WWF as the Commandant who managed the South African Truth Commission for a short time in 1997.
Born in South Africa. His film career started in 1987 in the film Scavengers. He has been in many South African movies through out the late 80's to the 2000s.
Wrestling Career 1997
Smith became a manager in professional wrestling in early 1997. Bret Hart visited South Africa and met Smith, who Hart recommended him to play a role in the World Wrestling Federation. He never fought as a wrestler. Smith made his wrestling debut in Tennessee in the USWA. He was known as the Commandant managing the Interrogator, Tank, and Recon as the Truth Commission as a paramilitary group, taking on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Smith had success in the USWA managing the team as they won the USWA Tag Team Championship, three times. In June 1997, the Truth Commission made their WWF debut. The Commandant made promos on WWF about the Truth Commission having superiority and the United States not having discipline. He was hated by the fans. Tank left the WWF and Sniper joined the commission. He was interviewed by Sunny but he scared her by yelling at her. The stable was undefeated in the summer of 1997 until losing to Legion of Doom. In September, he was replaced by Don Callis, the Jackyl as the WWF wanted someone in the role who could participate physically in the matches. Smith was released and returned to South Africa. That would be it for his wrestling career.
More Acting/Invictus
Smith continued to be in more films. He appeared in 2006's The Fall, filmed Los Angeles based in the 1920s. In 2009 he appeared in Invictus, an South Africa rugby team fighting to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He played as Johan De Villers.
Currently lives in South Africa, as a freelancer.
